A perpetual software licence means the purchased version can continue to be used under its agreed conditions. It is useful to distinguish that right from hosting, technical support and access to every future release. Those are separate commitments and should be described in the quote.

What the licence identifies

LinkDesk uses a signed licence associated with an installation identifier and a router allowance. The seller’s licence manager can issue a product key or an installation-specific licence file. A successfully activated purchased version does not require routine online licence checks.

Keep the installation recoverable

Record who purchased the licence, the authorised router allowance and where the prepared installer is stored. Protect the application’s data and the backup passphrase. A support conversation is much easier when the operator can identify the installation rather than searching old messages for an unidentified code.

• Keep the licence record beside the purchase receipt in a private business folder.
• Include the licence and recovery information in the operator handover.
• Contact the seller before moving control to a replacement installation.

A practical ownership boundary

Suppose an operator replaces a failed computer. The objective is to restore or transfer the authorised installation, not to create two controllers managing the same network. The seller’s transfer workflow can issue a replacement code, but an old offline licence is not remotely erased from a disconnected computer.

Check the commercial terms

Ask whether a particular update is included, whether assisted recovery is chargeable and how router-allowance increases are handled. Source-based offline licensing is not a guarantee against modified copies; its operational purpose is to record and enforce the agreed installation in the supplied software.
