Hotspot Expiry Rules and Customer Expectations

WayaDesk / Hotspot billing

Expiry should connect the package promise to a testable network result. An account shown as expired in the application and a device still passing traffic are different observations. Both deserve attention during acceptance testing.

Define the service boundary

Document how the chosen package establishes its start and end. Make the date and time visible to the operator, and give the customer a plain-language explanation. Avoid mixing purchase time, first use and a calendar boundary unless the configured workflow actually distinguishes them.

Check the enforcement result

Use a short controlled package and observe what happens at the boundary. Inspect the application’s entitlement, the router’s session and the customer’s ability to authenticate again. Test a reconnect after expiry as well as a session that was already active.

  • Verify that the configured clocks and timezone agree.
  • Record the expected and observed expiry time.
  • Confirm the next-purchase path without silently extending the expired pass.

Diagnose rather than overwrite

If an expired customer remains connected, preserve the record and investigate the active access path. Extending or deleting records to change the display can hide the original cause. Consider whether the customer is using another credential or service arrangement.

Communicate service extensions explicitly

An operator may choose a goodwill extension after an outage. That should be a deliberate, attributable business action rather than an accidental side effect of a reconnect attempt. Keep the original purchase evidence and explain what additional entitlement was granted.

Frequently asked questions

Does an expired label prove traffic has stopped?

No. Observe the actual router and customer result as part of the acceptance check.

Should reconnecting always add more paid time?

No. Recovery and granting a new service period should remain distinct actions.

Choose your software licence

One installation, a clear router allowance, and perpetual use of the purchased version. Setup assistance, hosting and external services are separate.
