Local or Hosted Billing Software: Deployment Choices

Choosing where billing software runs is an operational decision. It affects who maintains the host, how the application reaches routers and how customers reach checkout. A local installation is not automatically offline, and a hosted installation is not automatically maintained by the software seller.

Separate the three connections

Think about the administrator’s access, the application’s connection to network equipment and the customer’s public payment journey. Each has its own availability and security requirements. LinkDesk keeps administrative settings on a local listener; a public customer endpoint is a separate configuration.

Evaluate a local host

A computer at the operating site may be convenient when router connectivity is local. It still needs a reliable power arrangement, backups and a startup procedure. If customers must use checkout from outside the local network, the necessary HTTPS and routing arrangements remain part of the design.

Evaluate a server deployment

A server can provide a stable place for required services, but someone must maintain it and the network path to each router. Budget for hosting and recovery. A software licence does not include a managed server unless that service is explicitly sold in the quote.

• Map the connection required by each workflow before choosing a host.
• Identify who will apply updates and check backup results.
• Test a host restart and a broken router path independently.

Make ownership explicit

For example, an operator who can manage routers but has no server administration experience may need a defined hosting-support service. The lowest software price is not the whole deployment cost. Choose the arrangement your team can keep running after the initial installation session ends.
