Installing LinkDesk on a Windows Computer

A Windows installation can suit an operator who already maintains an always-on computer. The computer must be treated as part of the service, with a reliable startup process and protected application data, rather than as an occasionally used personal laptop.

Check the package requirements

The current LinkDesk release requires Python 3.11 or later. Extract the supplied customer package and follow its Windows installer instructions. The package provides Install-Windows.cmd and an installed Start-LinkDesk.cmd; it is not a native signed Windows EXE.

Verify the local application first

Start the installed application and sign in with the owner account established during setup. Complete the guided checks before configuring public customer access. Keep private administration separate from any customer-facing endpoint.

• Confirm that the intended user can start the installed release.
• Check the data and backup locations recorded in the setup.
• Restart the computer and verify the required services return correctly.

Separate installation from network acceptance

Successfully opening the dashboard does not establish that the host reaches the MikroTik router or that M-Pesa callbacks work. Test those paths with the actual configuration. If the deployment requires FreeRADIUS, its separate Linux service remains an additional component.

Plan who maintains the computer

Agree responsibility for updates, disk space and power interruptions. Keep the installer and recovery information available privately. A one-off software licence does not maintain Windows or replace a failed disk, so include those responsibilities in the operating plan.
