Changing an internet billing system is an operational migration, not just a new software installation. Use a small pilot to confirm LinkDesk compatibility and preserve subscriber identity, existing paid periods and payment evidence before changing the live workflow.
Inventory what must survive
List active accounts, package rules, usernames, serving gateways, service end dates and unresolved payments. Separate network credentials from customer contact information. Identify the previous system’s export format and who may access it. This page does not promise an automatic importer for every competing billing platform.
Choose a single access authority
During cutover, decide which system controls authentication and expiry. Two active controllers editing the same accounts can produce conflicting results. Plan the intended local PPPoE, Hotspot or FreeRADIUS path and review its configuration before changes. Preserve backups of both the previous billing records and the relevant network configuration.
Reconcile payments around the cutover
Agree a cutoff time and capture transactions arriving during the migration. Match each payment to the correct account and existing entitlement. Avoid importing historical payments as new renewals that extend time again. A pending transaction requires investigation rather than an assumption that the old or new system owns the outcome.
Define rollback before moving everyone
Pilot initial access, renewal, expiry and support investigation with a few accounts. Verify that staff can locate the original evidence. Record how to return those accounts to the previous workflow if a required feature fails. Expand only after the operator accepts the results on the intended equipment.
Questions before buying
Can I import any competitor database automatically?
No universal importer is promised. Confirm the available export and supported migration route first.
Should I run both systems against all gateways during the pilot?
Avoid conflicting access controllers. Define which system controls each pilot account and gateway.
